पृथ्वी में चुंबीय तरंग एवं अन्य शक्तियों के कारण एक विशेष आकर्षण शक्ति प्राप्त होती है जिसके द्वारा यह आकाश से गिरने वाली प्रत्येक वस्तु को अपनी ओर खींच लेती है, इस शक्ति को गुरूत्वाकर्षण कहा जाता है। इसी शक्ति के कारण पृथ्वी पर सभी वस्तुओं और प्राणियों को स्थायित्व मिल पाता है। इसी शक्ति के द्वारा पृथ्वी पर सभी प्रकार के गतिविधियों का संचालन होता है।
यदि पृथ्वी पर गुरूत्वाकर्षण की शक्ति नहीं होती तो पृथ्वी पर सभी प्राणी और वस्तुयें सब तैरते या उड़ते हुये नजर आते। इसी गुरूत्वाकर्षण शक्ति के कारण ही पृथ्वी पर निर्मित भवनों में स्थिरता एवं स्थायित्व मिलता है। जिस भूमि की मिट्टी जितनी ठोस एवं सख्त होती है। उस भूमि पर उतना ही स्थिर एवं स्थायी भवन का निर्माण होता है।
