प्राणियों के शरीर के समस्त अवयवों का रंग अलग-अलग है। शरीर की समस्त कोशिकाएँ भी रंगीन हैं। शरीर का कोई अंग बीमार होता है तो उसके रासायनिक द्रव्यों के साथ-साथ रंगों का भी असंतुलन हो जाता है। रंग चिकित्सा के द्वारा उन रंगों को संतुलित किया जाता है जिसके कारण रोग का निवारण हो जाता है।
शरीर में जहाँ भी विजातीय द्रव्य एकत्रित होकर रोग उत्पन्न करता है, रंग चिकित्सा उसे दबाती नहीं अपितु शरीर के बाहर निकाल देती है। प्रकृति का यह नियम है कि जो चिकित्सा जितनी स्वाभाविक होगी, उतनी ही प्रभावशाली भी होगी।

प्रयोग की सरलता के लिए पहले समूह में से केवल नारंगी रंग का ही प्रयोग होता है। दूसरे में हरे रंग का और तीसरे समूह में से केवल नीले रंग का। अतः नारंगी, हरे और नीले रंग का उपयोग प्रत्येक रोग की चिकित्सा में किया जा सकता है।
कफजनित खाँसी, बुखार, निमोनिया आदि में लाभदायक। श्वास प्रकोप, क्षय रोग, एसिडीटी, फेफड़े संबंधी रोग, स्नायु दुर्बलता, हृदय रोग, गठिया, पक्षाघात (लकवा) आदि में गुणकारी है। पाचन तंत्र को ठीक रखती है। भूख बढ़ाती है। स्त्रियों के मासिक स्राव की कमी संबंधी कठिनाइयों को दूर करती है।
खासतौर पर चर्म रोग जैसे- चेचक, फोड़ा-फुंशी, दाद, खुजली आदि में गुणकारी साथ ही नेत्र रोगियों के लिए (दवा आँखों में डालना) मधुमेह, रक्तचाप सिरदर्द आदि में लाभदायक है।
शरीर में जलन होने पर, लू लगने पर, आंतरिक रक्तस्राव में आराम पहुँचाता है। तेज बुखार, सिरदर्द को कम करता है। नींद की कमी, उच्च रक्तचाप, हिस्टीरिया, मानसिक विक्षिप्तता में बहुत लाभदायक है। टांसिल, गले की बीमारियाँ, मसूड़े फूलना, दाँत दर्द, मुँह में छाले, पायरिया घाव आदि चर्म रोगों में अत्यंत प्रभावशाली है। डायरिया, डिसेन्टरी, वमन, जी मचलाना, हैजा आदि रोगों में आराम पहुँचाता है। जहरीले जीव-जंतु के काटने पर या फूड पॉयजनिंग में लाभ पहुँचाता है।
जिस रंग की दवाएँ बनानी हों, उस रंग की काँच की बोतल लेकर उसमें शुद्ध पानी भरकर 8 घंटे धूप में रखने से दवा तैयार हो जाती है। बोतल थोड़ी खाली होनी चाहिए व ढक्कन बंद होना चाहिए। इस तरह से बनी हुई दवा को चार या पाँच दिन सेवन में ले सकते हैं।
नारंगी रंग की दवा भोजन करने के बाद 15 से 30 मिनट के अंदर दी जानी चाहिए। हरे तथा नीले रंग की दवाएँ खाली पेट या भोजन से एक घंटा पहले दी जानी चाहिए।
प्रत्येक रंग की दवा की साधारण खुराक 12 वर्ष से ऊपर की उम्र वाले व्यक्ति के लिए 2 औंस यानी 5 तोला होती है। कम आयु वाले बच्चों को कम मात्रा देनी चाहिए। आमतौर पर रोगी को एक दिन में तीन खुराक देना लाभदायक पाया गया है।
